Message I drove down to check out the ZR71 yesterday after picking up 4 new coilpacks and 6 new sparkplugs from Courtesy for a mere 252.00. The car is one of the nicest looking Z’s I have ever set my eyes on. It is sooo clean and everything on the car is new. Wheels, brakes, Mods in general is exactly what I want. However, the car is knocking/tapping like hell and the car was missing. I removed the connectors off of each coil pack (one at a time) to see if there was any noticeable difference in the way the car ran. 4 of the 6 made a noticeable difference, 2 was questionable. I then pulled out all of the spark plugs and ran a compression test. The results were 1. 131 2. 141 3. 134 4. 131 5. 129 6. 129. The seller told me that the engine had less that 1k miles on it so my thoughts (or excuse) was because the rings aren’t seated (broken in) because the engine is new. Every spark plug had a lot of carbon build up. What does that indicate? I then took it for a ride after installing new plugs. The shifter and clutch felt stiff as hell. It has the short throw shifter in it and I couldn’t tell when I was in gear and it was hard as hell to get into reverse. I think I may just need to get used to it. The clutch felt a lot different than my 90 NA. It didn’t feel like it traveled much but felt very, very solid. I then took the car for a ride before I wrapped up the night. It would boost up to 4lbs then cut out like it was running out of gas. I then thought I would call it a night and instead of rushing in to the decision and falling in a money pit, I loaded up my truck and headed back to Dallas (pissed, disappointed, but with 17k). I really want the car and willing to pay a few more grand IF I feel confident that Its running right and I not going to have to pull engine or have it at a shop the first year or the entire time I own it. What really sucks about it is the seller very frustrated with it. He has bought Everything possible to make the car right and it still has issues. Any advice on what to do next? Thanks to all that has helped me with advice and answers to my questions. You guys are great and I can’t wait to get a TT. I got home at 5am this morning and my NA was waiting on me. It was like coming home to my lady after a night with a dirty Whore….
